When to eat it. No oil, wine or fish, so it fits even the strict weekdays of Lent.
Ingredients
Method
- Thread the walnuts onto strings about 25 cm (10 inches) long, with a knot at one end.
- Whisk the flour into a cup of the juice. Heat the rest, add the flour mixture and stir over low heat 15 minutes until thick like pudding.
- Dip each string into the hot mixture, let it drip, and hang to dry. Repeat 2 to 3 times.
- Dry in a warm, airy place for 5 days until firm but chewy.
Tip. “Georgian Snickers.” No oil, so it is fine on strict days.
Fasting customs differ between churches and parishes. When in doubt, follow what your priest gives you. Not sure what today allows? Check the Orthodox calendar.
