Clean Monday’s sweet

Wine & oil daysPrep 5 minNo cookingServes 6
When to eat it. Made with oil. Keep it for days when wine and oil are allowed, like weekends in Lent and most of the Nativity Fast.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Slice the halva into thin pieces.
  2. Arrange on a plate with orange segments and nuts.
  3. Dust with cinnamon.
  4. Serve with Greek coffee or tea.

Tip. Shop-bought halva is made from sesame and sugar, which is why it is on every Clean Monday table.

Fasting customs differ between churches and parishes. When in doubt, follow what your priest gives you. Not sure what today allows? Check the Orthodox calendar.
