Soft Serbian round bread

Wine & oil daysPrep 25 minCook 35 minServes 10Plus 1½ hours rising
When to eat it. Made with oil. Keep it for days when wine and oil are allowed, like weekends in Lent and most of the Nativity Fast.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Knead into a soft dough and rise 1 hour.
  2. Divide into balls, set them in a round oiled tin touching each other, and rise 30 minutes.
  3. Brush with water and sprinkle seeds.
  4. Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 30 to 35 minutes.

Tip. Break it at the table instead of cutting it, the Serbian way.

Fasting customs differ between churches and parishes. When in doubt, follow what your priest gives you. Not sure what today allows? Check the Orthodox calendar.
